Twitter launches its long-awaited app for windows 8 and RT. Along with standard features such as the Connect and Discover tab, it’s been tailored with some Windows 8-specific features as well. The Search charm will let you look up users or hashtags from within the app, and there’s an option to use a single-column snapped view for multitasking. As you’d expect, there’s also a Live Tile that will display notifications on the Start screen.
Snap Twitter into the left or right side of the screen and then start using another app. You’ll be able to keep up with the conversations that are happening on Twitter while you watch a streaming video or read a news story. With snap view, you can adjust the size of the app to one-third, two-thirds or full screen.
“You’ll be able to keep up with the conversations that are happening on Twitter while you watch a streaming video or read a news story. With snap view, you can adjust the size of the app to one-third, two-thirds or full screen,” Mike Kruzeniski, Design Lead for Twitter, wrote in a blog announcing the release of the app.
Simply swipe from the right edge of Windows 8 and then choose the Share charm to share content from any app, such as a photo or news article, to Twitter.
Photos were clearly something the designers focused on with this release. Tapping a photo brings up a full-screen view that puts the image front and center. You can also view a photo gallery from your favorite users right in the app. Thanks to the Share charm, you can now also share links to these photos, as well as links from other apps and Internet Explorer 10 to Twitter.
