Is it time to upgrade your computer?

There are many telling signs which let you know it’s time your computer needs upgrading. It may not be the kind of expense you want to fork out for, but realistically your old machine won’t last forever. Below are a look at some of the key signs that should be telling you it’s time for a new computer.

Slow running

If it is taking too long to get anything done, chances are your computer needs upgrading or replacing completely. If a quick email check takes more than a minute then the warning bells should be ringing. You may need a new processor, a new memory or an upgrade to take it to the next level. Run all the diagnostics you can but it could be that you need to start again from scratch with a new machine.

Crash

When your computer was brand new it’s likely all your programmers and games works perfectly. If this is no longer the case and you keep finding your favourites crashing then it could be a sign you need an upgrade.

Check your computer for malware and spyware which could be responsible for the crashes but if all else fails it could be time for a change. It may have served you well but if it’s time to sell your faithful Macbook Pro then you need to face up to it.

System or components no longer supported

If your machine is really out of date then chances are you can’t begin to stay updated. You will find it hard to use any modern software or hardware and if issues do occur chances are that you won’t be able to get the support you need to replace your older components. Companies are known to only provide short term support for their own technology as they’re continually launching newer versions.

If your computer can no longer be updated then it probably is time to trade it in for a newer model.

Change in requirements

If your needs change then there’s a chance your computer won’t be able to keep up. If you bought your original machine for playing games and checking emails but now you work in web or graphic design then chances are you need a more sophisticated computer.

If your needs have changed then chances are an upgrade won’t be enough and you will probably need significantly more memory, a better processor and far advanced video or graphics cards.

Got too old

On some occasions your computer will simply be too old. It’s the 21st century, you simply can’t get by with an old Desktop with a Floppy Disc drive. This is an extreme example but in reality technology moves to fast that you will have to consider updating your computer every few years.

If you can’t remember the last time you updated or replaced it then chances are you’re definitely in need of a replacement.

It is a big expense but in the modern world there are very few people who can get by without a computer so ensuring yours is up to date is something to always keep in mind.
