Music television channel, MTV is launching a tablet?
California-based Swipe Telecom that released a range of Android tablet PCs in India recently has announced a tie-up with MTV to launch its first co-branded ‘Fablet’ called MTV Volt, priced at Rs 12,999.
The MTV Volt runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, coupled with 512MB of RAM.
The MTV Volt supports dual-SIM and has 6-inch capacitive touchscreen with 854×480 pixels resolution. The phablet features 8MP rear camera with Flash, 1.3MP front camera, 4GB built-in storage, 32 expandable storage via T Flash card, G-Sensor, GPS and FM Radio with Recording.
For connectivity, the phablet supports 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and USB 2.0. The MTV Volt is powered by a 3200 mAh battery.
The so-called ‘Fablet’ – short for fabulous tablet – also has a built-in TV app for watching MTV on the go. Check out the full specifications of the MTV Volt here.
Sandeep Dahiya, SVP and Business Head – Consumer Products, Viacom18, commented on the MTV Volt, “MTV Volt is a ‘made to order’ product for the generation that’s constantly communicating, entertaining and socializing. With features that address their needs and price-point that suits their pockets, we’re confident about MTV Volt by Swipe, to generate a great response.” He also said that MTV planned to develop a diverse portfolio of MTV phones and phablets.
The Phablet will be available across 10,000 retail points in India, Swipe e-stores as well as online portals such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, Infibeam, eBay, and more.
The mobile and tablet manufacturers have been trying to tap the young consumers of the country with smart devices at affordable prices. According to a Nielsen survey, 50 percent of the smartphone users in the country are below the age of 25. Overall, the country has 900 million mobile phones in use, out of which 40 million are smartphones, says the survey.
