The most innovative use of Wi-Fi for remote controls

Wifi At Home

A few years ago, Wi-Fi was just a figment of imaginations, something that hadn’t yet been invented yet or was to be used only by the most innovative and high powered people of authority. However, in the modern day, Wi-Fi plays such a huge part in our lives that we are now actually using it for everyday activities. Check out some of the cool ways you can use Wi-Fi to control things.

Heat your house

One of the very cool things that you can use Wi-Fi for now is to control the heat in your house. The Heatmiser Thermostat allows you to adjust the temperature of your central heating at home, even when you are not in the house. If your plans change at the last minute and you decide to go out with friends after work for example, you can use the app and a Wi-Fi connection to turn off your heating. This will save you wasting money and power to heat a house that nobody will be in.

Next level gaming

Xbox launched SmartGlass, allowing you to use your phone as a complement to your gaming experience. You can connect it to your Xbox 360 and it will interact with the device to push your experience to the next level. You can use your device as a remote control for the Xbox 360 on your TV screen or even use it in place of a mouse and keyboard as a controller to turn your TV into a computer.

Remote controls

You can now get remote controls that will control everything in the room from the lighting to the television. If they have a Wi-Fi connectionas well, you can actually access news and weather updates from the remote as well. These remotes can pick up device codes for all the different electrical items in the room and programme them into the remote. You can then turn on and off your television, sound system and lights, as well as making adjustments to things like volumes. The ability to control everything from one remote is very appealing to people who have several devices that they use simultaneously.

Security systems

Some houses have CCTV fitted to them, with cameras and recording equipment installed throughout the house. You can now install applications to your mobile device that will allow you to control the CCTV system from your device, even when you are not in the house. You can look at live footage of your home and check that everything is as it should be when you are out and about. This is a particularly useful app to have if you are going on holiday or will be out of the house for a long period of time and want to check up on everything.

The things that can already be controlled with just a Wi-Fi connection and compatible device are making modern life considerably easier. Who knows what people will be able to do in the next few years. Perhaps there will actually be an app that does the washing up as well!
